"Arthdal Chronicles: The Sword of Aramoon" Episode 1 Review

After 4 years since 'Arthdal Chronicles,' which didn't quite live up to expectations, Season 2 returns with a new title, 'The Sword of Aramoon.' There were concerns due to important cast changes, but with a star-studded cast including Jang Dong-gun, Lee Joon-gi, Shin Se-kyung, and Kim Ok-vin, the anticipation remains.

Now, delving into the review of the first episode, the story begins eight years after the conclusion of 'Arthdal Chronicles.' Tagon, the King of Arthdal (Jang Dong-gun), who is determined to conquer the eastern territories of Arth, personally takes the field and eventually suppresses the uprising of the kkachinol tribe. At this point, the only opposition to his plan for unification of the continent is the Bato tribe by Notsan River and the recently united Ago Alliance.

The newly appointed leader of the Ago tribe, Eunseom (Lee Joon-gi), enters talks with the Bato tribe to form an alliance. However, these talks are orchestrated by Arthdal's puppeteer, Milsole [mfn]Milsole: the head of Security Service[/mfn], Saya (Kim Do-hyun), Eunseom visits the Bato tribe stronghold, but because none of the Bato tribe recognize him, so he disguises himself as an his staff and acts nonchalantly. Meanwhile, outside the meeting, Saya lurks, ready to strike against Eunseom.

However, there is someone who recognizes Eunseom's true identity, and that's Syoreujagin(Kim Do-hyun). He reveals Eunseom's true identity during the negotiations, but Eunseom remains unfazed. A battle erupts within the negotiation room, with Eunseom and his group taking the Bato tribe leader as a hostage. Outside, Saya's soldiers are waiting in ambush.

At the moment when Saya was about to reveal his true identity to Eunseom, a subordinate calls for Eunseom from outside the tent, and Eunseom leaves without hesitation. Saya realizes that Eunseom is his twin brother who is his ultimate adversary "Inaisingi.". The rest of the plot follows..."

First, it's impossible not to mention the previous work, 'Arthdal Chronicles,' which received a lot of criticism due to historical inaccuracies. So, I hesitated a bit before watching this series, but my initial impression after watching is that it's a drama worth watching, and I wonder what was so different about Season 1. It felt like the same director and writers were involved, despite the change in cast.

The Korean drama, 'Arthdal Chronicles: The Sword of Aramoon,' kindly provides a recap of the previous season's plot before the start of the first episode, making it easy for those who haven't seen Season 1 to follow along. In reality, with the major cast changes, you can think of it as an entirely new work. Lee Joon-gi's performance as Eunseom, replacing Song Joong-ki, carried the early part of Episode 1 and firmly established the atmosphere of the drama. It was easy to understand why he is praised as an acting genius. His performance had a captivating quality that instantly immersed me in the story. Shin Se-kyung, who took on the role of Tanya instead of Kim Ji-won, also fit seamlessly into the production. I'm eagerly looking forward to the next episode; it was a drama that left me wanting more."
